(Trans)places to Play: Mapping Cultures of Reinvention in the Age of Digitally Mediated Translocal Relationships
This thesis undertook five studies investigating how families and romantic partners living far apart use digital technologies to resituate a sense of togetherness and shared place at a distance. I offer a new word, “transplace,” to characterise the kinds of places being cultivated together by loved ones living far apart, often through the internet, telephones, physical mail, and other networked technologies. The Spectral Carta: A Locative Ghost Story for Brisbane
This research explores the use of locative mobile technology to develop emotional relationships with the urban spaces of Brisbane. Through practice-led methods, this research engages with the creative practices of various locative authors and developers, as well as the researcher’s own practice. It hones both technical and aesthetic toolkits for telling a new type of locative story: a locative visual novel, combining visual art, creative writing and interactive elements. |

Compass FYP Report
Report for Compass, my Bachelor's thesis project. Compass is a hypercomic: an experimental sequential narrative written and designed for the online interactive medium. It embodies an effort to develop a consistent visual language with which to tell stories on the infinite canvas of the webpage. It tells the story of two travellers, the captain of a ship and a runaway, sailing the seas in search of the edge of the world. |
